I stayed away from No Man's Sky for years because of its launch, then finally tried it with a friend and ended up starting a solo save after a few dozen hours. What surprised me most was that the universe didn't feel empty — I kept finding planets different enough that I wanted to see the next one, then the next one, until hundreds of hours disappeared. I thought I was finally done until a friend sent me a screenshot of the weirdest planet I'd ever seen and immediately made me want to come back.
